DVLA registrations buy online

The ability to buy a number plate online isn’t particularly special.

Some number plate dealers have been offering this service for many years and it is a lucrative business- for some.

In October you should be able to buy DVLA Registrations online - but what benefit will this have to the DVLA and to the number plate buying public?

With the arrival of such technology (finally at DVLA Swansea) it’s possible for the DVLA to save a great deal of resources by drastically downsizing their call-centre staff.

We predict the ability to buy registrations online will prove very popular indeed - and may even boost sales somewhat as I’m sure the DVLA will back it’s launch with an advertising campaign.

As for the public? the ability to search AND buy number plates online direct from the DVLA could affect the trade of DVLA resellers - as until the launch they had online purchasing as an advantage over the DVLA.

So the DVLA will hopefully see a rise in sales - a gentler one over time- and the public will benefit from convenience - makes me wonder why this is only happening in 2008 and not 1998 (!)

F prefix plates - the last series of prefix number plates

So thats it.

When the F prefix number plate series is launched in October- at the same time you should be able to buy DVLA registrations online - it will mark the end of the prefix number plate launches as the last remaining character to be sold.

As with the E prefix number plates before, only the combinations F1-20 XXX will be sold - as opposed to some other Prefix combinations which utilise 1-999 (give or take)

So what a rollercoaster ride it has been! with high rolling number plates such as K1NGS to a generation of dodgy and illegal number plates - all made possible through the DVLA Select and DVLA registrations service.

As the last Prefix letter comes up for sale, and some of the best possible number plate combinations are let loose into the community- it seems sad that this is one of the last opportunities to snap up a great number.

Although we wondered if there are any good F number plates left - there are a few great combinations we hope to purchase when the series is officially launched.

So as the final launch of the last prefix number plate series draws near- we wish you the best of luck - that is if you give an F about number plates at all (!!)

Asian number plates - the most famous asian numberplate

In April 2006 a number plate fetched an enormous £201,000 at a DVLA auction.

This number plate was 51 NGH or “singh” to those of you familiar with autonumerology

So why was this plate so expensive and why was there so much interest?

Well, SINGH is derived from the sanskrit word SIMRA and means Lion. It is commonly used as a surname or middle name in India and one that is predominantly used by Sikhs.

To display this on your number plate in the most legitimate way possible is not only a display of wealth; but also a display of faith- something very important to Sikh number plate enthusiasts.

Many Asian motorists and number plate enthusiasts seek out and purchase the most valuable Asian number plate combinations. With prices rising ever so steadily- investment in an asian number plate could be just what the doctor (or bank manager) ordered…

Are my German number plates illegal ?

I came across this question on a website today- are my German number plates illegal ?

This nice chap was a member of a VW Golf owners’ club forum and about to add a set of metallic German number plates to his Golf.

No doubt these would look great on the car but the fact he had to ask to check if such a thing would be illegal is very worrying indeed.

The fact is ANY deviation from the DVLA’s number plate rules is plainly illegal.

With the advent of websites dedicated to cracking down on number plate crime it would seem even if the Police aren’t taking a tough line on motorists then someone out there is waiting to catch you out!

Check out this website- the webmaster really seems to be upset about illegal number plates.

(watch out for swearing)

Who will buy F prefix number plates?

Giving it some thought, the release of the new F prefix numberplates will bring some new combinations to a quite saturated number plate market.

Ferrari owners for starters are going to want to get their hands on some F registrations for their “F cars”

The prefix F1 - in the aftermath of Mr. Khan purchasing the registration for such a collossal amount- will have either an increased starting price; or an increased demand - or both.

Some great F1 combinations include:

F1 FER
F1 ACE
F1 MAN
F1 LEW (Lewis hamilton)

As a lot of the better quality number plates may have already been auctioned by the DVLA - number plate buyers will have to use their ingenuity and autonumerology to work out the best combinations.

Words in the new number plate series such as F3VER and F31STY have already gone under the hammer and it’s possible others simply wont be offered for sale or witheld for future auctions.

At first glance - f plates will appeal :

F1 is for motor racing fans
F4 numberplates will appeal to the IT crowd

It’s possible that any prefix F number plate could be used to make a rude or illegal numberplates obviously there is spelling the F word itself- but also combinations of F-off and F-you could creep in.

So we will wait until October with baited breath until the DVLA put us out of our misery and the last in the series of prefix number plates is finally released

Are there any good F prefix numberplates left?

illegal number plate = MOT failure ?

If I have an illegal numberplate on my car will I fail the MOT test?

Yes you will I’m afraid.

Depending on which MOT centre you visit and how leanient the tester is you will fail an MOT with an illegal numberplate

To save the hassle of having to have your car fail the MOT and go for a retest you are wise to ensure your registration plates meet the standard

Is my numberplate illegal?

If you find that your plates are illegal you will need to have a set of numberplates made- find your nearest RNPS (registered number plate supplier)

It’s also worth considering you may attract the police’s attention and get pulled for having an illegal plate

So be safe, not sorry- check your plates and make sure you meet the guidelines.

wanted number plates

What happens when you really want a number plate but despite your best efforts you just can’t find it?

wanted number plate adverts are the answer - Smashing Plates are currently the first and only place in the UK to place a wanted advert for your ideal number plate.

Knowing where to buy numberplates helps when you are on the hunt for that ideal combination but as ever increasing numbers of great combinations have been snapped up or aren’t affordable- so wanted advertising fills the gap.

Why spend time continually checking with the dealers and classifieds when you can let the seller come to you!

illegal number plates - the revolt

I stumbled upon a great website today which showcases illegal number plates.

www.chavplate.org.uk

Despite the colourfull language (**** of the month etc..) there is a serious point here to be made about illegal numberplates and the fact that thay are now on every street corner and show no signs of slowing.

The DVLA and Police claim to be cracking down on reg plate alterations but I think the message has yet to get through.

Clearly if a plate reads as it shouldn’t then there are all sorts of implications- not only for numberplate recognition but also when selling a numberplate if it needs mis-spacing then this will affect the value of the plate.

I guess the main reason for illegal reg plates is because the ideal combination is unavailable or too expensive- I would suggest a little more creativity when searching for a numberplate as there are so many millions of great combinations.

The days are numbered for illegal plates but I fear they will be around for a little longer.
